Meet Comté, the most popular raw milk cheese in France!

đŸ‡«đŸ‡· ComtĂ© AOP is a French traditional cheese, made for more than 1000 years.

Comté is one of the most popular cheese in France. It has a mild, aromatic, sometimes slightly spicy but always fragrant taste.


We stock two very different Comtés with their own character:

 

Comté 18 Months:

 

You can find younger Comté than 18 Months but they are often quite bland and Comté starts to be very interesting when it reaches 18 Months.

I am a Comté fan, it is my childhood cheese where I would munch on baguette, saucisson and Comté 18 Months for "mon 4 heure" (French after school afternoon tea).

It is a fruity, nutty, very versatile cheese that goes well with any occasions and many recipes.

Wine Pairing: Comté AOP 18 Months will obviously pair very well with a Jura white wine but will also be great with a Chardonnay.

 

Comté 36 Months:

 

Unlike wines, in that case older does not mean "better" but very different.

At that level of aging, Comté develops crispy crystals called, Tyrosine and its flavour is much sharper and stronger than an 18 months one.

Still very nutty but way more savoury than an 18 months, Comté 36 Months particular taste may not please every palette at first but once you have learned to enjoy it, it will quickly become one of the first cheese you will put on your cheese platter!

Wine Pairing: Comté AOP 36 Months pairs with a sparkling wine or a sweat white wine. Comté either 18 or 6 Months canbe enjoyed in many ways and at any tie of the day.
